In 1902, French Mathematician Jules-Henri Poincaré (1854-1912) published “Science and Hypothesis”. The Cubists focusing on the fourth dimension that Poincaré shown in this book tried a cubic expression that incorporates multiple perspectives in a painting that is a two-dimensional plane. That is, it can be said that the Cubists expressed the geometrical four dimensions.
In 1905, Albert Einstein (1879-1955), a German physicist who was impressed by the fourth dimension of Poincaré proposed “special relativity”. This Einstein's theory, which laid the foundation for modern physics, was focused on by the "futurist" painters, an art and social movement that took place around Italy in the early 20th century. They represented space-time, that is, three-dimensional space in the real world and time with a one painting. That is, Futurist painters represented the four dimensions of space-time.
In 1999, American physicist Lisa Randall (1962- ) and Australian physicist Raman Sundrum (1964- ) proposed the "RS model" by collective research. Their study forms the basis of brane cosmology showed the existence of "Extra Dimension"; in addition to the four-dimensional space-time in the real world, which is a weak gravitational field, the four-dimensional space-time gravity brane, which is a strong gravitational field, exists as a parallel world, and there is another dimension that connects them.
Masahiro Ito (1983- ), a Japanese artist who focused on this concept of “Extra Dimension”, attempted a high-dimensional representation in a single photograph, which is a two-dimensional plane, by modeling the real world and the parallel world in virtual space. That is, Ito aimed to express five dimensions, which is “Extra Dimension”.
Just as scientists pursue new achievements, artists have also tried to express new ways of expression and new perspectives in a two-dimensional plane. That is, it can be said that Science and Art have progressed together and developed interactively. Beyond the goals of both sides, "unification of forces" may be achieved.
